I don't know how to title this other then to just put "John".
The past 24 hours have been pure hell. As my last post stated he has bleeding in his lungs, however after more intense testing found it was more then they imagined. He also had issues with his heart. However they are not sure if it is the disease or if it is his heart trying to deal with other parts of his body failing.
They admitted him into cardiac ICU. They decided to do the plasma exchange. They say this is the last resort. He is in such bad shape they advised me to have the kids brought to ths hospital today. They say the next 48 Hours are crucial. He also had a blood transfusion of 3 pints today.
It has been a long day.

You are in my thoughts.
Find strength in your family and perhaps you can all come through this together.

All my prayers and good thoughts coming your way, Stephanie. One thing that might comfort you is that plasma exchange has often been the very thing that revives someone in deep trouble. Please keep us posted.

All my prayers and good thoughts coming your way, Stephanie. One thing that might comfort you is that plasma exchange has often been the very thing that revives someone in deep trouble. Please keep us posted.

I had plasma exchanges and transfusions daily for several days when my bleeding in the lungs was bad and my HGB went down to 5.6. It was a scary time for my family as my survival was very uncertain, but I was intubated so didn't know anything about it till weeks later. I also got RTX and CTX IVs during this time and lots of other stuff too I guess. It took a while to get through this rough period but a few months later I was back in rehab facility doing fairly well and a year later was considered in a drug induced remission. I hope John is as lucky.

Best wishes for improvement soon.

Thank you all for you kind words. John is doing his second plasma exchange as I type this. He ate breakfast this morning!!!!!
His hemoglobin was 10 this morning. They said not to celebrate just yet because we have to take in consideration that he had 4 units of blood given over the past 24 hours.
He had an episode of horrible stomach pain about a hour ago so they had to stop the exchange for about 20 minutes.
They are now having him take cytoxan orally. He will also do his scheduled RTX next Saturday.

His brother got in from Kansas this morning and we are still waiting for his dad.

Oh my gosh, what a horrible string of events John has had. It does sound hopeful that the plasma exchanges might be working - I hope the second one really does the trick. I'm thinking about you all.
