Moved to Nanaimo 4 years ago from Manitoba. I was diagnosed with Wegeners in October 2010.
I had bleeding from my sinues for about a year only in the morning clearing my nose never thought anything of it as well as blood in my urine that I could see reported this to GP tests were done with no results. On a holiday back to Manitoba I started to cough blood and went to local emerg. and they gave me some antibiotics and told me to check into emerg. on returning to Nanaimo. During the trip back in my motorhome I was having trouble walking and lifting my arms. Once back in Nanaimo I went to emerg. the Dr. there coterized a bleed in my nose and put me on a high dose of antibiotics. After this I went to my GP and blood tests were done and I was taken off antibiotics and given 10 mg of Pred and referred to specialist. I was in pretty bad shape when I met with speciallist and he put me thru a regiment of blood & urine tests, a biopsy of lungs and nose ear throat with other speciallists in quick order and they come to conclusion I had Wegeners and I was put on 50 mg of prednisone as well as cyclophosimide, sulfatrim, Risedronate as well as a drug for my stomach. Immediately upon starting the 50mg. of Pred I felt somewhat normal with the doctors keeping a close eye on me and it is June and it appears as I am going into remission and hoping I will maintain.

Hi Colin, nice to meet you. I'm glad you got diagnosed before the Wegs became more involved. How long have you been on the meds?

Welcome Colin, your story sounds familiar in the way that you got the go around with the docs before actual diagnosis. Sorry you had to go through all of that but I'm happy to hear that things are on the up and up. This is a great place alto be for enouragement, comoradarie, and support. It's quite an amazing group of people on here. I actually know an Emergency doc in Nanaimo, wonder if you ran into him - Dr. Gene Filanovski? Hope all goes better and better for you, keep us posted.

Sounds like your doing great. My sugars were high but went down once the prednisone was reduced.
