I always get eye pain, it comes and goes, but I think it is from my sinuses being damaged. I am not much help. If your not in remission you can have eye pain. It is best to notifiy you doctor and get it checked out.

Is your eye doc a specialist in autoimmune diseases? The WG specialist usually want you to see one if eye trouble is involved. Yes, I agree if you get a cold or sinus infection is affects the eye's.

I get a feeling that my eyes are bulging when on higher doses of pred. It doesn't cause pain, though.

If you have any distortion of your vision (eg, like a funhouse mirror) you need to call your doc asap. High dose pred causes blurry vision.

tim not sure..but my rhuemy said that the docs im seeing are the best in the country..and they see all kinds of cases from lupus eye and RA eye..i have an appointment in 13 days with my optimoligist..lol they used me as a learning tool..cuz of my right eye..they even had this yearly seminar and they presented my case to about 50 doctors..and my rhuemy was there and some ENT's were there too...my case got alot of attention from alot of people..i would wish that kind of attention eather..cuz at that point they couldnt figure out what was going on in my eye..they didnt want to treat me for wegs yet if it was infection and they didnt want to lower the pred to far because they thought if it wasnt infection that WG would go out of control..that was when i was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago..now it seems to be getting better but i was scared for a sec cuz they never did truly find out the cause they just hit it with all the strong drugs..and hoped they got it right..even when the drugs were bottoming all my vitals..i was hating it then

Vince,

What meds are you on? I was experiencing that exact sensation when I was on CTX. I had a bunch of tests as my vision was messed up and I was seeing weird blobs in my vision. Long story short, they never found anything wrong and when I went from CTX to MTX it completely cleared up. Not sure what your situation is, but I believe my situation was caused by my meds.

I don't get eye pain --it is more of a strain. I also have times, (like right now) where the entire white of my one eye turns red like a broken blood vessel. I don't know what that is all about. It can't be the prednisone as I have been off of it for some time now. Has anyone had that happen or is this related to Wegener's? I would appreciate anyone having any ideas on this.

For me, bloodshot eyes (like something from a horror movie!) was one of the symptoms I was showing when I had active Wegener's. Since treatment I just get the occasional small bust vessel that only lasts a couple of days.

Thanks Jack! I also often get slight redness around the white of my eye(s) with a streak of two of redness like a small blood vessel burst, but this time it is the full white of the eye. I am not sure if I am over-reacting with my worry or not. It is really difficult to know when to react and call the doctor and when it is nothing to worry about.

I remember very vividly on one of my early visits to my rheumatologist when he told me to line up an eye doctor that would see my within 24 hours if I noticed anything different in my vision or eyes. His statemnt was we want to try preserve your vision since you have lost your hearing. Based on that I would have called this doctor and be seen by them right away. It may not be anything that requires treatment but I would much rather have them make this call than me. Wegener's disease takes so much from us anyway so lets try keep it from taking anymore than we have to give it.

purr6 you should..i lost vision in my right eye..it only took a few months and i was seeing doc..that was before they actually diagnosed me with wegners..if you get scleritis of the eye with WG it can take your vision..so you should go to a opthamoligist and find out..also talk to your rheumy about it..i learned the hard way..

Thank you so very much for all of the advice. I have a call in to my doctor and am going to insist on a referral to an opthamologist. The opthamologist that I saw about a year ago said that he felt the redness was a reaction to makeup and I know that was not true at the time--it was the Wegener's then and probably is some sort of sign again, I'm afraid. I am so appreciative of this forum to find out about these things. Thank you for not making me feel like a hypochondriac! It is so difficult to tell what is what with this disease!
