Hey hey
Speaking to a friend last night about Resveratrol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resveratrol). Lots of discussion on it on the Interwebs of course with both positive and negative opinions. Has anyone ever heard of it before? Seems to be a powerful antioxidant that claims to assist with overall wellbeing plus have anti-ageing and cancer-preventing qualities. Not sure what to think but was going to ask my doc on Friday when I see him.

Any thoughts from anyone here?

Andrew, are you sure it is not called Reversatrol? In that case I have heard of it but know nothing about it. I think Sangy might know something about it.

Yes, I heard about it on Dr Oz show. I don't think it's a miracle drug.

Andrew, it's perfectly safe to take. The Wikipedia reference is quite good, actually. The explanation of the mechanism of action was thorough and accurate. Get a moderately priced brand (you don't need tons of bells and whistles) and take the recommended dose. :smile1:

Thanks Sangye and Elephant. I thought of increasing my red wine intake but I don't think the budget would allow it ;-)

Thanks LisaMarie. I think red wine is great! I have an appointment with my WG doc on Friday so will ask him then.

I asked my doc about drinking red wine and at the time I was not in remission she said one glass is fine, that all depends on the medicines that your taking too. Some medicines you can't mix with alcohol, for example high blood pressure medicine and alcohol don't mix usually.

Elephant, was she actually saying that alcohol intake should be severely limited in WG patients, regardless of drug status?

At that time I was asking if I could have a occasional glass of wine ( at that time I was on heavier meds) and my WG was not in remission, it was slowly going into remission. I did not ask that question about can WG patients drink alcohol. Doctors don't usually like patients drinking because most of us know is that alcohol is hard on the liver and most all medicines are metabolized in the liver. I think anyone who wants to drink wine or choice of drink should ask their doctor because of too many variables like health problems and medicines.
