Never muscles, just sinus, kidney, lung and skin. I've not heard of muscle biopsy associated with Wegeners although mine have all wasted away during the past three years so there is probably a connection somewhere.

His rheumatology doctor seems to think it could be damage from the steroids or the connective tissue disease.Oh God this all baffles me I am a health carer at our local hospital and no one has even heard of wegeners
Its a hard one to figure out

You can say that again! Wegener's and the complications of medication mean that it has been surprising me with new symptoms for over 20 years. No one warns you that this is going to be the pattern from now on, but it seems that each time I get one thing sorted, another springs up. My medical records now run to multiple volumes!

The good news is that most of the problems are not life threatening and I'm still here. I cough constantly (to the annoyance of all around), but my lung specialist can't do any more for me, so I guess I'm stuck with that one. It disrupts my sleep every couple of hours and I find it best to sleep alone. :(

Steroids can cause "steroid myopathy," a condition in which the muscles start to waste away. It's doubly bad, because steroids also cause your body to retain fat. So you can get quite weak. A muscle biopsy with show if it's myopathy. That condition is not so unknown like Wegs, so they should be able to treat it.

Sue, hang in there with being frustrated about getting Wegs information. In a few weeks, you won't believe how much more you've learned. It comes with time. You won't find anything more online than you probably already did with a google search, so don't beat your brains out trying. Stick to the invaluable info on this forum and other forums, blogs, etc..., as well as what you learn from doctors as you go. Fix what you can and accept the rest, for the time being. I know it sounds crazy, but it will keep you from going crazy!
