Its been awhile since I have been on here, due to the fact my husband finally got us out to San Diego while he is waiting to be discharged from the navy....

So I have a few questions.....

1- Does anyone know if it is possible to even get pregnant when my husband is still on all his meds? And if thats a no is there anything he can take to make the percentage of the no go up to a yes? haha
2- My husbands nose has got pretty bad....its def a saddle-nose now, but its really really sensitive is that normal?
3- he sees flashes of light out of the side of his eyes what could be causing that?...he has an appt to see the eye doc but I would kinda like to know what he might be walking into when its time to talk to his doc.

Does he see a Wegeners specialist. Sounds like he needs to see a eye doctor who specializes with autoimmune disease that effect the eye.

Hi Bethany, is he seeing the lights all the time or only sometimes? A migrane can cause this effect but please make sure you have a good wegs specialist. There are many eye problems that wegs can cause so the earliest you can get to a specialist the better.

The only way to determine the affect on fertility is by having a test. It is no big deal compared to all the other stuff we go through.

Nice to see you Bethany. I was actually thinking of you a couple weeks ago wondering how you guys were doing. Only a Wegs specialist can answer #1 and #2. Flashing lights can be many different things, some simple and some serious. He needs to get to an opthalmologist asap. (Not an optometrist)

On the nose, I have a saddle nose but experienced no pain as it was collapsing, and it's pretty common not to experience pain or even notice it right away. He should see an ENT to see what's going on INSIDE the nose - that could be causing the sensitivity.

Only an ophthalmologist can do surgery but an optometrist can dilate the eye and check to see if their is any physical damage and assess the need for any surgery. They can also get you a quicker referral to an ophthalmologist if one is needed. I had an optometrist treat an inflammation in my eye before I was diagnosed with Wegener's and he did a real good job and relieved the discomfort and suggested I might have something like lupus. Only he and the podiatrist had any clue that I might have somethings like Wegener's disease. Not one MD ever hinted or guessed that it might be some systematic disease causing all my symptoms that I complained about for over a year till I ended up in the hospital and finally got diagnosed with Wegener's.

I would also encourage you to see someone ASAP since you only have about 24 hours to repair some physical eye damage before it becomes permanent. When I left hospital treatment I was told to line up an eye specialist that would see me within 24 hours if I had any new or strange symptoms since they wanted me to try keep my vision since I already lost my hearing. I lined up an optometrist that assured me she could get me care by an eye surgeon if that was needed after she examined me.

Thanx everyone.....my husband went in today and they did dilate his eyes, and the doc said from the tests he didnt see anything....but I told my husband to not just let it go, just because he is still worried about it and I dont trust doctors first opinions most of the time! :-/

Here's a good description of the difference between optometrists and opthalmologists. Personally I would never leave it up to an optometrist to tell me my eyes are okay. Wegs can do some complicated things and I don't know if an optometrist is sufficiently trained to recognize it.
