Hi everyone. Just wanted to update you all to let you know that Josh is scheduled for his kidney transplant on Dec 15. Please keep him in your prayers that day. Still a few little hurdles to go through before that date such as Echo on Monday, physical on Thursday next week, blood work, etc..

There's a very generous 20 yo donating one of her kidneys to Josh. Would love to hear all encouraging words and stories to help keep me from worrying.

Thanks everyone,

Kelly (mom of my dear 16yo Joshua)

At last! I don't have any inspiring stories about transplants but just wanted to say that I hope Dec 15 is the beginning of a new and excellent life for Josh.

Fantastic news! All my best wishes go out to him. :)

It has now been 20 years since I had my cadaver renal transplant and it was the best gift that anyone could ever have given me. Within days I was feeling more like my old self again and even the operation itself was not too bad. I was discharged after only 10 days in hospital. I'm sure that a lot rests upon the attitude of the patient - during my time on the transplant ward I only witnessed two failures and in both cases the recipients had a very negative attitude and gave the impression of not wanting the operation. Do all you can to keep his spirits up and emphasise all the positives. In fact there are very few negatives so that should not be a problem.

Should you be wondering, having a transplant and also Wegener's has never presented any issues. There seem to be no conflicts in the treatment required.

Thank you for your information. I so do appreciate all the feedback. I am excited for Josh to get off dialyis but in the same breath I am terrified of the surgery and life after. Glad to hear your transplant has been successful for now 20 years. Hope you have wonderful holidays ahead.

So happy to hear about Josh's transplant. Can't wait to hear his success story when it's all over! I need to have my daughter look him up on Facebook so she can chat with him while he's recovering. They can discuss the joys of being a teenager with WG. :cool1:

I've marked my calendar and will be saying a prayer for Josh and YOU!

Thank you all for your positive statements. WeggieParent and the rest of forum WG friends, you can follow Josh's progress on Josh's FB page. It's called "Kidney Donor Needed for 16yo Joshua LaFountain." I hope to update this frequently depending on how things are going and how much time I'll have. I'm not sure of the time yet on Dec 15, but I sure will let you all know.
Thank you..

That is so exciting. :D I had my kidney transplant when I was thirteen in 2003 after being on dialysis for almost four years. My mom donated it to me, and it was the best thing that could have happened. The surgery went very smoothly, for both myself and my mom. My health got so much better afterwards, I feel really great now. I started to go back to how I used to be after only about two weeks post-transplant. I simply cannot express how much the transplant improved my life. I had no problems with it at all, and I haven't had any in the almost eight years that I've had it. In fact, we celebrate the day that I had my transplant and call it my Kidney Birthday. :)

I wish you and your son the best!
