Hi all,

I ran acrossed this forum and I'm very glad to find a place where I can get hands on information about the issues of Wegner's. I was finally dx with this on 9/2/2010 after referring myself to a pulmonogist at Cleveland Clinic in June. The delay wasn't on CC's side the delay started in Jan from local doctors. I first had feet swelling and pain and rashes on legs 2years ago and was also hospitalized w/ pneumonia. I was given steriods and antibotics and recouped, I thought. then in Jan I started having alot of coughing and stomach problems so, my primary care in Feb ordered catscan of stomach and she called me at work to tell me that I need another
catscan of my lungs because there were nodules showing in my lower lungs. After getting another scan she sent me to an onocologist who want to do a needle biopsy of the caviated nodules, the largest being 4cm, they did that in Mar and the results were not found. I then ended up in the hospital with a 103.5 temp and was given steriods and antibotics. The onocologist wanted to wait a see me again in 3mos. I went back to primary care with alot of pain coming from my lungs, she then sent me to a local pulmonary guy who then referred me to a surgeron who did a lung resection. After surgery I got really sick and had to go back to the hospital with high fever, was in the hospital all of April, still no dx. To make a long story abit shorter, I finally gave up on the locals, after the pulmonogist down here told me that there was no definitive dx, that I had a really bad infection and I needed to quit being so paranoid and go live my life, I did. When I got to Cleveland Clinic that pulmongist sent for the tissue samples and their team of pathologist and rheum. anaylized, my blood work shows nothing, but with the catscans and tissue samples they confirmed Wegner's
and start me on treatments. Just wanted to say thank you to all, for the info I have gotten reading these posts.

Hi Jaha, welcome to the forum. :)

Glad you finally got a diagnosis, it can be very difficult can't it? Hope you are now under the care of a vasculitis specialist with plenty of experience with Wegs patients. There is no substitute for experience when it comes to the treatment of this tricky disease.

What medication are you currently on and what symptoms do you still have? Does it feel like things are now under control?

Look forward to hearing more from you. The forum caters for everything from technical information, through general venting at the situation and on to any sort of random nonsense! :biggrin1:

Welcome aboard the rollercoaster Jaha! You appear to have had a struggle to get the correct diagnosis but hopefully with a good specialist you will get some stability in your life and quickly.

Jack,
Thanks for your response and welcome. I am under the care of a Rheumotoligist, and she has me on Methotrexate, prednisone, bactrium, folic acid and cal w/ vit D. I go back for scans this week to see how I'm doing. I am having joint pain and pain still from the lung surgery, due to inflammation of the nerves in my ribs and feel really exhausted most of the time. I guess I have alot to learn about this.

Hi Jaha, welcome to the group! I'm wondering if you still go to CC? That's who should be overseeing your care and guiding treatment.

Welcome from Central Ohio :) Definitely keep in consult with the CC docs. They are very busy, but I'm positive they are giving me better care than I was getting in Columbus (Which was basically none for about a month and a half). It sounds like your involvement is pretty serious, but you sound to be doing better now. Good luck.

Hi Jaha, I go to Cleveland Clinic too and see the Wegeners specialist - Dr Carol Langford. I had a chunk of my lung takine out March of 2009, it took a long time for me to recover. I was on high doses of prednisone, cellcept and othe drugs...yes it was very painful! Take your time and you will heal, it just takes time.
