There, I've taken Doug's and GigiWendy's advice and have made some t-s and other goodies for Weggies, Weggie lovers and friends, and pred only stuff (hoping to get some flow over from other nasty diseases - tongue in cheek) for sale at Zazzle.com. As you already know, the money from that will go towards the book and anything left over from this and all money from the book will go to research and hopefully our kids wont have to worry about winning the 'wrong lottery' in the future.

You can find 'my store' here: WeggiesUnite: Home: Zazzle.com Store (http://www.zazzle.com/weggiesunite), so spread the word and lets get some balls rolling.

Hey Dee,

I thought you could apply the design to any clothing, but I just checked and no sweat shirts or hoodies. I'll make some. I've also just made some shoes, and they look pretty rad, I just have to wait for them to get approved. I've only put this up last night and already there are a few mugs sold, so yeee-haaa.

I'll make some hoodies/sweat shirts this afternoon. Is there any particular design you are interested in? I'll make whatever you like.

That's the one shirt that I can't do on that site. I actually put 20,000 faces on there and there's the one little weggie proudly marching in the open path. On the zazzle site, they only let you fill a certain space on the shirt, so I can't fill it all with my 20,000 spectators. I'll have to figure out a differnet way to do that one. Maybe I'll get that one printed here and then can send it out.

Gwen, thanks for buying some stuff. Have broken the $100US mark in one day (sales that is) - woot woot.

I was thinking of red too, I'll make a couple of things in red - I think pink on red might look kinda cool - I'll play. Wait till you see the shoes, I really like them.

Well, Marta, I just ordered an orange hat with the fighting new evils theme, and the prednisone by hour 15 oz. coffee mug! It's a small start, and good luck on having more people come by to shop!

Incidentally, entering SWEETESTDEAL in the coupon box gets you $10 off the total cost until Saturday, so my $41 order became a $37 order (the numbers are approximate....)

Anyway, Australians, New Zealanders, UKers, Americans, and a bunch other citizens of major countries can look to find themselves, by flag, at the bottom of the opening page. All prices will be charged to the currency of the country of the flag represented, and measurement units will change to the customary ones in use in the country where you are buying items from.

Marta will get statements telling her how much money was collected as "profit" if enough of us buy from her "store", or will have to look for that information in Zazzle's section for "store owners". Don't make her go there! Show some support, if even to buy one t-shirt, or one mug. The prices will look high, but remember the "profit" goes to the purposes noted above.

I am a retiree and an insurance orphan in this country, so my funds are slim but sufficient to help Marta in her cause. I intend to visit it again in future because I saw other things I liked!

One last thing, write this down - weggiesunite - because you will need it ar the top in the left hand search box. The right hand one has a drop down box for type of object (mug, hat, etc.) you want a search for. That is the name of Marta's "store". If you don't specify that, you'll get 31 trillion mugs to look through to find her designs! I exaggerate, but not by much!

Incidentally, Marta, I thought they- the things you put up- turned out pretty good! I can vouch for the quality of the merchandise, and have spent hundreds of dollars with them over the past couple of years. I have several things going of my own, including mugs with my avatar, Captain Me-ow so have considerable confidence in them. (That's Louie to you, but don't tell him I told you!)

Thanks Doug and everyone. I'm blown away at the first day success. I agree that the prices do come up somewhat high but like you said earlier Doug, this way people can choose what they like and I don't have to invest a bunch of money I don't have to make it happen ( I was going to figure out a way to do that, but this seems more reasonable for our particular group - spread sparingly throughout the planet). I'm stubborn too so I will make this (book) happen, which is the ultimate goal with this particular game.

Here are links directly to the store from various countries.
Canada: WeggiesUnite: Products: Zazzle.ca Store (http://www.zazzle.ca/weggiesunite/gifts)

United States: WeggiesUnite: Products: Zazzle.com Store (http://www.zazzle.com/weggiesunite/gifts)

Australia: WeggiesUnite: Products: Zazzle.com.au Store (http://www.zazzle.com.au/weggiesunite/gifts)

I have been having fun making stuff, and it's kinda fun trying to get around their limitations. The Weggie's Pride Parade shirt can't be done on there, so I might get some done here and send them out to you if you like. That'll take a little longer though.
Thanks again, and I'm totally thrilled that you guys like the stuff enough to buy it. Here are the first little baby steps to our anthology.

I've also done a man's tie (no words on it, just the weggie inside dude - all disheveled and sexy - carrying his pistol). I've also done a red t-shirt with lung vasculature on it - couldn't find a red hoodie- sorry. I'll do up an apron right now Dee. A raging cook? A sleepy cook? A superhero cook? I'd love a hoodie if ya get round to it!! And the shoes are awesome.

What about a lapel pin??

marta
10-16-2010, 03:45 AM
Hey Sam, I've put two hoodies on there. They have no lapel pins but I did make a button (not nearly as nice as what I imagine a lapel pin would be) I've also put a bumper sticker on there. I have a bunch of new ideas that I'll play with along with some earlier ideas from the post Andrew started. I'll play later - gotta go get some blood work done, pick up a monkey from nursery school and when I put her down for a nap, I'll play.

Andrew, do you still plan on putting the short URL to redirect to here? If so, would you like me to use it on some of the stuff? I didn't want to without your concent, so if you give me the go ahead, I'd be happy to put some stuff together. I'll make a new category in the store with 'forum goodies'. Let me know and I'm your huckleberry. You guys can fire off ideas if you have any. I'm wide open to anything.

Totes are an excellent idea! If not so common in the US (Canada?), they are more commonly used in other countries. Even then, I see more and more people using them even in the US.

You guys are funny. I love the tsunami of ideas, I was looking for a place to contact zazzle yesterday so that I can suggest PJ's (as they don't have any) and now I can suggest slippers when I find a contact for them.

Weggies in the Hood - I love it Geoff, can I use it? I can see it already.

Speaking of this wave... I just ran into the producer of a morning show in Edmonton on City TV, she works with Brian in the winter, and we were talking about Wegener's (her aunt who lives in the states has it) and I told her to let her aunt know about what we're planning on doing with the book and if she would be interested in participating. I told her how we're raising money to get the book published and she asked if I want to go on TV and talk about it. Of course I said yes, so I think I might be on next week when I go to the city for my rheumy appointment. I have to get my head around how to get the message out and be to the point, but if you have any thoughts on stuff that is a must do for awareness, please pass it on.

At the very least we might sell more goodies and be closer to getting the book out - woot woot.

That's awesome, Marta! I don't know about you, but I'd prepare by organizing my thoughts and facts on paper. They really edit you on tv, which is why it's good to talk in sound bites. What did you talk about?

I'm definitely going to talk about how important it is to have support and how much this site has helped me. Which is why I think we need to do the book, so that people can see that there is life on the other side of diagnosis... something that is kinda hard to find in the literature when you get out and are stunned and don't know what exactly the future looks like (not that you ever do) .

That's great Dee. I just ordered a whole swack of stuff, so hopefully the sizing isn't too out there.

That's cool about your WG consult. I think it would be great to have a little something in the book from a doctor to other doctors... telling them maybe how they can get information and help from specialists if they get a WG patient. I'm just shooting from the hip, but it might make the book more worthwile to the medical profession (wouldn't it be cool if it became required reading material for med students--- oh to dream) I'm going to make little business card size info things to give to my rheumy to pass on to his other WG patients. He said it would be OK. So maybe a few more on board.

Incidentally there is a sale at Zazzle right now on all White Apparel - get $5 off all white apparel. Just use the code : OCTSHIRTSALE when you're making the purchase. The sale is on this week only. Hope this helps a little.
Also there is free standard shipping for order on $40 or more use code: HALLWNSHIP40 when making your purchase.

how are you doing since you went for your check up last week hope everything went ok

marta
10-26-2010, 02:26 PM
Thanks on Dr. Abuzakouk, I'll look him up. Amazing, hey, technology.

The appointment went well. Always seems too quick even though he spends quite a bit of time with me. Incidentally he had a resident with him this time (he has someone everytime as he's a teaching doctor) who happened to be one of the team of doctors who diagnosed me in the hospital. He didn't remember me but I fully REMEMBERED him.

I have been taken off cyclophosphamide and am going to start methotraxate on Halloween. I mentioned in another thread that I'm feeling a little odd about not being on the immunosurpressant. I've been so looking forward to getting off it, but it's also a little scarry. 'What if's' are flying in my head like birds in a Hitchcock movie. I know everything is going to be fine, but having a bunch of odd symptoms the last little while has put me on edge a little.

I am happy thought that things appear to be moving forward, slowly but surely.

Sangye
10-26-2010, 02:38 PM
That's great news, Marta. I sure understand the mixed feelings about not being on an immunosuppressant. After the second round of rtx got the Wegs under control, I was worried about not going on something until the next round. You'll be fine. Keep a daily journal of symptoms so you can stay objective and watch for trends.

marta
10-26-2010, 03:30 PM
Thanks Sangye. I was just talking to Brian and thinking about a comment Jack made in a thread a couple of weeks ago. He jokingly said how it's funny when doctors tell us Weggies what to do we take it more as a suggestion. Well I'm having that kind of moment right now. My doc, decreased the markers he's looking at on a new labwork requisition (doesn't have ESR on there anymore or urinalysis) and he's increased the amount of time between labwork appointments (from two weeks to once a month). I just decided that I will continue on with the old bloodwork req for at least a couple of more appointments - at least until I see that things are sticking with the methotraxate. I get to see my results too, so I'll keep an eye on them. I think this is an odd time to decrease surveilance - while we're switching drugs and the serious wean off pred.

What do you think? Am I crazy or am I paranoid?

wg consult showed me what to look for ,as i have mine done at gp surgery and has on occcasion been useful as i ring his office if i see some thing im comcerned about
usually means drugs chsange but also save a trip into town just by been able to fax him and discuss what to do
im still having bloods done every two weeks

marta
10-26-2010, 05:16 PM
Yeah, I think I'll keep it going as long as I can before I get called on it, and if I do then I'll call'em back... if you know what I mean. I didn't pay attention to the new lab requisition until I got home, and was a little disappointed when I saw it compared to my old one, so I'm sticking with my old one. I've also been seeing my rheumy once every two months and now he has changed that to three months. It could mean that I'm doing amazingly well, but I'm thinking that's not the case considering how I feel right now, so I'll have to keep on top of my own stuff I guess. I'm OK with that.

On a more fun topic, I've just put up three more shirts. Two roller coasters from H-E-double hockey sticks, and a Panda shirt - remember when we were talking about pandas being our mascot because of the dark circles around the eyes, well now they can be.

Have an awesome night you guys, I'm off to bed to read my book (The Girl Who Played With Fire) and the kids (Brian and Hana) are asleep so I get to polish of a few more pages.

jola57
10-26-2010, 06:04 PM
Marta, hopefuly all will be right and you will not have any problems before getting onto mtx. Why were you not put on both for a transition month? My rheumy also stopped seeing me every month, now its actualy once a year, and my blood test is every month, but all the markers and urinalysis and esr etc is still on there. By the way this is for all Canadians. In BC we now have myehealth website where I can log on and see my lab results within a day. See if you have the same possibility.

Phil, I just read your post while eating a piece of watermelon and it just about came out my nose. You're too funny. I'm still laughing.

Elephant, thanks, it's quite hard getting a hold of my rheumy. It's a little irritating actually, and my GP who's an hour away is also hard to get in to see. I was thinking of getting one of the docs in our town - who you can get in to see easily to be my 'go to guy' when I have an emergency. I am pretty well the one taking care of my 'get healthy' program, so all I need is someone to bounce ideas off and have access to the medical system - i.e. blood tests, and other things. I just upped my pred to 20mg today after quite a few days of a perpetual headache and stuffed sinuses. Today I had some pinkishness in my sinus excretion, so I decided to up the pred, and within a couple of hours of taking the higher pred dose, my headache is gone, my sinuses are unstuffed, my ears don't hurt - it really is a miracle drug, as much as I hate it. My rheumy also told me that if I happen to have a cold or flu I can up the pred for a couple of days as this is what normally happens when our adrenals are working. I'm gonna hold at 20 for two days and then go back down to 12.5 and see what happens.

I'm getting braver.

I just saw that someone bought the panda shirt... I wanna see how that one looks on, so whoever it is you gotta post a picture.

Thanks elephant. I went to a new doc in town today - she's a great young doctor who was here when I was prego, and left town to have her own baby and just got back - so that I have access to someone close to home who I like and trust (I can walk to the docs office from my house). I told her the whole story and asked if she could be my 'go to' - she took a bunch of notes, asked some great questions, and I now have someone I can bounce my self diagnosis off of. I put myself on 20mg of pred and was going to stay here for two three days, she suggested staying at 20 for a week, and then instead of going down back to 12.5 go to 15 while we're working out the immunosurpressant switch. I was thinking exactly the same thing in bed last night (going to 15 instead of 12.5 as that's when most of my symptoms popped up). So I'm happy with the doctors visit. I'm also happy to have someone close to home.

Thanks a ton for your help and support, I really don't know how I could have handled this crazy WG without all of you guys here. You have no idea how totally invaluable this group is to my life and mental well being.

How wonderful that you can walk to her office and talk to her about what's going on with you. That is why I like this forum, wonderful people and great support. Like Phil stated we are here for you!

Marta, I'm glad you found a go-to doc. I like the idea of lowering more slowly. I did not like the idea of jumping all the way to 20 mg because you had sinus symptoms. That's a huge jump. The comment about adrenals doing that when we get sick is not very accurate. For one, they don't produce anywhere near the levels of cortisone that we are on with pred. For another, they don't sustain the higher levels, just spike them. Like Elephant said, sinus activity can mean Wegs activity... keep an eye on things.

My Wegs doc only sees me every 3 months, including during my flare last year. I can get in sooner if I have to, but most of the time if I have concerns I email his office and he tells me what to do. Someday when things quiet down I'm sure he'll extend it to every 6 months and eventually annually.

Hope your stay in hospital is coming to a sucessful end.

OK relax - got it. Black eyes, fat cheeks, big appetite, slow reaction time, round belly, generally good disposition, and cute as a button... a big round button. lol.

Glad you got it Hammy. I just had to go and check it out as I couldn't remember what I had put down. I just make that up and post it. I had a great idea in the hospital but didn't have internet access with my computer. I could get on with my phone (which is how I kept tabs on you guys, and maintained a level of 'irritating my Weggie friends') but couldn't get the shirts done. Once I shake this headache I'll put it together.

Thanks for the nice wishes. I'm at home now with my amazing family, and in quite a bit of head pain, but I'm just about to go to the basement (my isolation chamber) and pop a morphine and have a nap.

Thinking of you guys all the time. What a weird way to be connected to a bunch of people. We're connected by such a web of yucky things and hopefully one day before we leave this planet we'll be connected by something big and beautiful and positive.

I just read a quote from Mother Teresa. Not sure if it was on this site or something else that I was surfing on my phone while at the hospital. I'll probably misquote it, but it's a good one. "God only gives me as much as he knows I can handle. I just wish he wouldn't trust me so much." Probably misquoted but you get the jist.

Peace y'all.

Dont you just feel sometimes as If you've been given the ball but someone forgot to tell you the play?

(I've americanised that for all our friends across the pond but I'm sure we all get the drift)

Hope you feel better Marta real soon and those nasty head pains go away.

Thanks Natalie, I'm feeling better slowly but surely. I got my weggie shirt and wore it to my local doc, and will wear it to my rheumy's appointment next week. See what he thinks. It's been fun doing all of that. Once I get my umpapa back I'll make some more, I had some great ideas in the hospital that I never got around to, but they're in there, in the vault. I was also thinking of making some for our docs. Wouldn't it be good to go in and give something to them showing them how unbelieably rare THEY are. If we're rare, they are even moreso. But only for the good docs. Bad docs are a dime a dozen. ha ha.
