    Default MTX to Immuran

So I feel significantly less drained on Immuran. But the Prednisone effects are becoming more pronounced on Immuran. Did anyone else feel like MTX reduced the Pred effects? I feel hungry more often now and have sugar cravings. I've finally started gaining weight...which to an extent a bit was needed, but I am worried I'll put on more than I should. Given my background with previously being considerably overweight I'm finding I'm a bit paranoid about putting too much back on now. It's weird to see the scale start swinging the other way I guess.

I really can't speak to pred specifically, because I wasn't on pred at the same time I was on mtx. However, I was on cortef (hydrocortisone) at the same time. Now that I'm off the mtx and still on cortef, I have noticed a weight gain. I go on HGH as soon as the pharmacy can get it in and it also has weight gain as a side-effect. Oh joy....

I was never on MTX, I switched from CTX to Azathioprine (generic Immuran) and I'm on 7.5 mg Pred. I gained 10 lbs since September to 195 lbs and have trouble containing my weight much less reducing it. I'm 5'10" heigh and 68 years old.

It is so weird that so many of us do so differently on mtx and aza.

I have been overweight for some years but was just begining to lose weight when they put me on Pred, I put all the weight back on plus some. Even though I have gone from 60mg daily to 15 mg daily I still find it difficult to lose weight again.

I think I'm probably just paranoid about gaining weight. I have been arguably too thin since May of 2010, but after being severely overweight in the past and going through bariatric surgery to correct it I'm just very wary of weight coming back on. Just to explain I was about 340ish before surgery, and my target for weight was to reach 230....I ended up at 175. At 6'2" that's thin for my bone structure...but now I'm freaked out for going up in weight...at least in part because I know I'm eating things I shouldn't.

I can certainly understand this Bob. It is very hard to eat right all the time. Are you still on Pred right now?

Yeah, only 9mg a day now though. Would think it'd be getting better.

Nine is better than 40 or 50mg a day but still enough to create some problems with elevated blood glucose level according to my endocrinologist so it might affect your diet and weight gain programs. I am now down to 5 mg but have only lost a couple of the pounds i gained last year from the higher dosage of pred. I haven't gained any more recently but not having much luck at losing much either. My BG levels are getting much better though and easier to control at the lower dosage of pred.

I still had an increased appetite (though not greatly increased) at 2.5 mg pred. Being on hydrocortisone now I can really tell the difference. I don't have it at all.
