    Default Prednisone and flares

Just wondering, is it possible to have a flare while taking prednisone? I started taking 60 mg/day about two weeks ago.

Sure - - if you're not taking enough of it. I had a major flare (lungs) while on 40mgs.

Yes, it's possible. Are you on an immunosuppressant? Prednisone alone-- even a high dose of 60 mg-- is not enough to control active Wegs.

Just pred, due to also having Hep C my doc is afraid to give me any other oral med. I sure hate to hear that it is possible, I guess I need to read a whole lot more. Thanks for the info.

Oh dear. You really need a Wegs specialist involved. I cannot emphasize that enough. With highly active Wegs, using pred alone has a 50% mortality rate within the first year.

If it were me, I'd be on the phone with a major vasculitis center immediately.

Elaphe I had a previous cirrhosis diagnosis and I'm still taking Methotrexate. Controlling Wegeners is actually more important than pretty much anything else (according to my liver specialist even). Also there are some of the treatments that are not dangerous to the liver.

Elaphe, are you seeing a Rheumatologist in Greenville,SC? I go to Cleveland Clinic, to see a Wegeners specialist. I see her once a year.
