Wow... that is promising. I wonder how long it takes to get from this stage to actually using it on a regular basis safely - in terms of years to get through all of the regulatory processes?

I hate to say the "T" word around Holly but it is always in the back of my mind that she may need it at some point.... having another way of fighting off rejection would be a relief.

    Hi Leigh,
I am no biochemist or immunologist, but...we know those with Weg need to suppress very specific parts of the immune system ( targeted B cell suppression seems to be working for some, at this time..ie, with RTX treatment as opposed to the broad immunosuppresion of CTX).

I know of a kid in Austin, a young man with WG, that has had a heck of a time with infections post immunosuppression. He has now added an infectious disease specialist to his list of medical providers, to try to sustain the working parts of his immune system (possibly with future IVIG therapy,) especially while in complete B cell depletion after RTX treatment. I think there is hope on the treatment scale, with new therapies around the bend, but this idea is news to me...

What is your knowledge and/or experience with IVIG? Thanks for any and all insight..

Palmyra, IVIG has been used to treat other AI diseases. It has anti-inflammatory properties. Dr Seo told me they had hopes that IVIG might be of benefit in Wegs but studies didn't pan out. He said they only use it in Weggies if their immunoglobulins drop too low, so it's effective as a specific immune support but not as an overall treatment for Wegs.
