    Sorry for asking a daft question here, but why can't WG be controlled purely with prednisalone? Is it because of the side effects?

    I'm not sure that anyone knows, but they have tried Pred only and also Immuno Suppressants only without success. It was only in the 1970s that it was discovered that the combination is required. Of course, everyone is different and some can get by on one or the other or even just Bactrim, but this is unusual.

    Pred is anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive. The problem is that it doesn't suppress the immune system enough to control Wegs. You'd have to stay on extremely high doses in order to do that and even so, I'm not sure it would be strong enough.
