Default Terribly Personal Question Regarding Stool/Bowel

Not easy to broadcast to the world.
Since diagnoses/taking meds I have dealt w/ messy ones. Not diarrhea, but always messy, odorous, as well as having to sit there awhile!
I am on Pred, Imuran, 2 HB Pressure, Bactrim, Omeprazole and Zoloft.
It's tolerable at home (if it has to be), but at a public place or someone's home it can be another story.
Terribly discouraging all the way around.
Don't think it's fiber-related, as I should be getting enough.

Does anyone know of anything one can eat, drink or supplement that might help? My doc didn't have any suggestions.

    David

Lysol spray should take care of that. I wonder if taking the combined medications have anything to do about it.

It's probably a combo of your meds, but omeprazole is likely the main culprit. You might want to try a different acid-blocker to see if it helps.

This might be way off, but I'll put it out there because you never know what can help. While talking to a whole bunch of people with various autoimmune issues, including chrones, colitis, and ciliac... something keeps coming back to me, the Paleo Diet. My mom and I just bought one while I was in solitary confinement in the city and she started following it a week and a half ago - she has fibro and has had a horrible time with bowel movement - horrible... After just over a week of following it, she lost 6 lbs (which she didn't expect and says she's not hungry at all in between meals) but all of her pain has gone and BM's are getting close to normal. I've heard the same thing from so many people that I'm working hard now on making meals at home that follow the concept. Basiscly you eat anything that was around before agriculture - so no grains, no dairy, no sugars. Eat meat, veggies and fruit.

Like I said, it might sound cooky and overly simplistic for the insane concotions we deal with, so take it with a grain of salt (unless you're on pred, then avoid the salt but who knows what might help and if it's as easy as changing our diets - woo hoo.

    Best of luck David.

I know a few people that had fibro and followed a simialr diet and it went away in a few weeks or less. Fibro is just an imbalance in the diet anyway. Anyone that I have known that has supposedly had fibro and seriously changed their diet got cured.

I am having a hard time with your post Phil. People with fibro have a lot of pain and are treated by the medical profession in a similar way that we were treated before diagnosis. I don't think your comment is fair to people who are suffering. My mom has fibro and keeps hearing her pain and horrible quality of life diminished by so called medical professionals that "it's not really a disease" and is "just in her head", or "it's because she's a woman", or "because she is stressed". She doesn't supposedly have fibro, she has it and it changes her whole being when it's flaring. If we expect people to acknowledge with respect our invisible disease, we can't minimize and pseudo diagnose their invisible diseases. Sorry to be back here for just a few minutes and have my hackles up, but we can't segregate ourselves and think that 'ours' is something special while stomping on 'theirs'.

I think it is the meds David, I had similar issues which have mostly abated. I had some issues before dx and once I had a colonoscopy my habits changed drastically (?). On the meds they changed again, off meds again. I went from where you are to having to take a laxative. Now I am ok, however, as with everything else we deal with this to engages a "new normal".

Not what I was saying at all.

I simply said fibro is not a disease but an imbalance in the diet that can be corrected.

    Elephant,
You must be a P/T comedian. I don't go anywhere without disposable wipes either. Can you think of one for that?!
I can't hardly imagine trying to spread my meds out over the course of the day as opposed to all at once, because I try and put time between my meds my vits/supps. Hard enough to do this as it is - but maybe I need to try. I'll take some time to look over your guys answers...

David, I had troubles w/ nausea, etc. when was first put on steady diet of mtx & pred, I was taking them all together. First doc had me split mtx into 12 hour intervals on intake day. Has worked so far! So, I also started splitting my daily dosages of all the other stuff...and it seems to work also...the pred, at least, isn't 'making' me talk as much!!! LOL! Some of it may be in my head as some in here may attest to!! LOL, but it's working to date. Keep up the questions and learning! Best to you!
