The last time I was on high dose pred I learned that I didn't crave salty foods, but if I took even the smallest bite of something salty it was like my taste buds went wild with "GIMME MORE!!" Then I couldn't stop. Same thing with sweets. So I just avoided salty snacks and it wasn't a problem at all.

I find the same thing. I don't crave sugars any more. So maybe just keeping salty foods out of the cupboard is the trick. Gotta get more fresh veggies and fruits to snack on this week.

Sweet foods for the most part no longer taste good, but I can eat handfuls of salt and popcorn with salt or salty potato chips make me salivate.

Ah! Thanks Lightwarrior. You just figured it out for me. I am chronically dry in the mouth and throat and nose and have very little saliva production. So I think that is why I like to eat more salty foods as of late as it makes my mouth and throat more moist and not so dry and irritated. Hopefully once I get dilated then I will not need so much pred and bactrim and ventolin and atrovent and other meds that dry me out. Then I can get back to my old standby: WATER.

Salt is definitely in my diet. I salt everything, not only for taste, but to keep my sodium normal. Or, at least that is what I thought. Believe my endo told me during the last visit that the intake of sodium had very little to do with the sodium level in my blood tests. Nevertheless, I use a lot of salt. Surprisingly, my blood pressure is aok.

When my sodium levels were low I was told to salt everything possible by the treating doctor in the rehab facility. Now I hear it probably didn't do any good anyway, just got me on three blood pressure meds.????

David, I started having problems with "the runs" early on when I started cyclo and pred. I can tell you that the first thing I did and still do when I come to a new place is scope out where the washrooms are. I have had many near misses and about 3 accidents. Let me tell you it wasn't pretty. The problem strikes anywhere and at any time, and time to get to the bathroom is almost non existent. I have learned to live with it and hope that it doesn't strike when going to the bathroom is impossible. Now that I am on 7.5 mtx and 3mg pred, the problem is not as bad, but just today I had an episode and almost didn't make it to sit down.

My gut has not been right for awhile now, either. Cellcept caused ongoing diarrhea. I'm off of that, but I take a prescription potassium supplement that I suspect is causing a lot of the trouble. It's famous for it. I've also noticed that grains don't seem to agree with me anymore so I've been mostly avoiding them. I can tolerate a lot of veggies--raw or cooked-- so it's not a fiber issue.

The first thing I do when I go to a new place is scope out where the nearest chair and bathroom are.

I too scope out the nearest bathroom and if I am going someplace where I will be facilitating the meeting or on a panel then I take Immodium before going. Never once has immodium clogged me up.
