    Don't know what's going on!

The doctor just came in to say they're going to give me a steroid injection, then take blood every half an hour therafter to be tested. I think (I can't remember) it's to check adrenal gland function. Has anyone ever heard of that before?

Yes Gwen they just want to make sure you are producing the correct amount of corisol ( prednisone mimicks this). So by checking you every hour, they are seeing if the cortisol level goes down or up to determine the cause for example if the corisol level just stays the same it could indicate a number of things..cushing syndrome. Ask them when they come in again. Keep us updated.

Apparently it's to do with very low sodium levels in my blood. I've been retaining a lot of fluid lately, so I wonder if that's related.

My Rheumy went beserk with the general medical doctors for getting involved because (and I quote) "they don't have a clue." LOL.

More bloods today, waiting for results. x

Gwen, let them check this out. It won't interfere with your Wegs treatment. They're testing your adrenal gland function, to see if they're producing enough cortisol. Adrenal insufficiency can cause low sodium, fluid retention and fatigue, among many other problems. You definitely want to know if your adrenals need help.

If they do find a problem, that's for your rheumy to fix.

You are not going to believe this, but the doctor had the wrong patient!!!! Scandelous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Rheumy was horrified, and told the general medics to not treat me because they are in charge! Scary.

On a positive, my neutrophil count is improving. Rheumy says that everytimie I get a common cold/viris/infection the WG attacks my blood count thus making me neutropenic each time. No cure, just treatment each time it happens. x
