Is Robin Hoods Bay anywhere near the famous Sherwood Forest? Slightly embarrassing that I'm English and don't know but I've never been any further north than Cambridge!

You should all come to Bournemouth instead, it's not on a hill and is full of people racing around on mobility scooters.

Robin Hood's Bay must be at least 100 miles from Sherwood Forest.

I know, I've just googled it!

Well then, what connection is there to Robin Hood? Why is it his bay?

    Wikipedia says -

The origin of the name is uncertain, and it is doubtful if Robin Hood was ever in the vicinity. An English ballad and legend tell a story of Robin Hood encountering French pirates who came to pillage the fisherman's boats and the northeast coast. The pirates surrendered and Robin Hood returned the loot to the poor people in the village that is now called Robin Hood's Bay.

Either way I like the story of Robin Hood. Maybe he has some relatives still living in Sherwood Forest that I could visit.

Even here in North America 2 and 4 hour drives are still alot. But driving 1000 or even 5000 miles during a summer holiday is not uncommon. Our summer holiday in 2008 put 3600 miles on the car.
